What gets in the way for tattoo studios
Every job is a quote
Callers want a price for a piece they describe. List your hourly rate, your minimum and a consultation as services, and the assistant gives those while saying the final price is set at consultation.
Long sittings
A four-hour session means four hours of unanswered phone. The line takes each call and you read the texts at the break.
Deposits and walk-ins
Callers ask about deposits and whether you take walk-ins for small pieces. Put both in notes.

Iron Fern Tattoo has three artists and a front counter that is staffed only on weekends. Services on Glow Line list a consultation, an hourly rate, a shop minimum, a small flash piece price and a cover-up consultation. Notes explain the deposit amount, that walk-ins for flash are welcome on Saturdays, that the studio does not tattoo under 18s, and parking.
A caller describes a forearm piece and asks for a price. The assistant gives the hourly rate and the minimum, says the final price is set at consultation as the notes say, and offers to take a request for one. It takes his name, mobile and a preference for an evening. The artist reads it at the end of a sitting and texts back with a Thursday at 6.
